Summer 1998, is when I started developing my beer tastebuds as an adult. Now yes, there are more sophisticated beers out there, Blue Moon was the first beer I let set my taste palette.
Blue Moon contains malted barley, white wheat, orange peel, coriander and oats. You can definitely taste the orange tones in the beer. When the bartender served it to me, the orange slice sealed the presentation. Everything about it looked like summer to me. When I took my first sip, history for me was made. My tastebuds for beer had finally now evolved past my love for Budweiser and Coors Banquet.
Fun Facts: Blue moon is a
Witbier, which means that it's a barley/wheat top fermented and brewed in Belgium.
Recently, Blue Moon lost a lot of 'cool points' with some people with it's craft beer status because it was actually acquired in by MillerCoors in 1995. And it's also the reason why the label says "Belgian-Style Wheat Ale".
Regardless of the changed labeling and technicalities, I still love it. Blue Moon is sold in bars and grocery stores everywhere and still my favorite go-to when bringing a 6-pack to any event or house party.
It contains 5.4% alcohol by volume.
Blue Moon also has several seasonal brews, my favorite is the Summer Honey Wheat. The 12 Oz. Bottle contains 5.2% alcohol. I'll write about the seasonal brews later.
In the meantime, if you see a girl at the bar drinking her beer with a straw, buy her a beer. 😉
